1. |
Cut construction paper approximately 24 in. x 18 in. in size. You may cut it a little bit smaller, just make sure to adjust the sizes of each alphabet squares later on. |
2. |
Fold down the top ¼ portion of your construction paper to create a flap. |
3. |
Draw two diagonal lines starting from the top right and left corners of the flap and meeting at the middle of the flap's bottom edge. |
4. |
Cut along the diagonal lines. |
5. |
Cut two 1 ½ -inch wide strips of craft foam. The strips should be around 18 inches long. |
6. |
Holding the 2 strips together, staple each end at the middle portion of the bag to create the handles. |
7. |
Cut a 2-inch diameter circle from craft foam and glue this on the v-portion of your bag's flap. Glue a sequin or another craft foam shape at the center of the circle. |
8. |
Cut 26 squares from various colored construction paper. Each square should be about 2.5 x 2.5 inches in size. |
9. |
Write an alphabet letter on each square using colored markers or crayons. You can put upper case or lower case letters, or write both. |
10. |
Arrange all alphabet squares on your bag to make sure there's room for all the letters. Don't glue them on yet. |
11. |
Turn each alphabet square face down. Apply glue along the right, left, and bottom sides of the square. |
12. |
Stick each alphabet square on your bag. Remember to put them in the right order. |
13. |
Jazz up your bag with glitter glue designs, puffy paint, sequins, stickers, craft foam shapes, buttons, or other things that would make your bag look super. Set your alphabet bag aside to dry. |
14. |
Now let's make some mini flashcards to match with the letters. Cut at least 26 pieces of 4 in. x 2 in. rectangles from white construction paper. |
15. |
On the rectangles, use colored pencils or markers to draw an object or image that begins with each letter of the alphabet. For instance, draw an apple for the letter "A" on one rectangle, a ball for the letter "B" on another, and so on. |
16. |
Put up your alphabet bag on the wall by taping the craft foam handles. Practice your knowledge of alphabet letter sounds by matching the object with the corresponding letter. Slip the mini-flash card inside the appropriate letter square slot. As your alphabet mastery grows, add more words to your vocabulary by drawing more mini-flash cards to match with the letters. |
