Before starting this craft, you may want to check out some fascinating facts about the whale shark:
2. |
Draw an outline of a whale shark or print out this whale shark stencil. |
3. |
Whale sharks are characterized by light yellow spots all over its body. Draw spots on the whale shark using light yellow or white crayon. Make the strokes or spots as heavy as you can so that they show clearly after being painted over. |
4. |
Thin down any water-based black paint with water. As you paint on the whale shark, the spots which were made using wax crayons will resist the thinned-down paint. |
5. |
Don't worry about painting over the edges as the whale shark will later be cut out. Continue painting until the entire whale shark has been colored in. |
6. |
While waiting for the painted whale shark to dry, you can make a background using the same crayon resist technique. Create an underwater picture by drawing waves with white or perhaps dark blue crayon and painting over the entire paper with thinned down blue watercolor paint or any water-based paint. Allow this picture to dry. |
7. |
Once the whale shark is dry, you can cut it out. |
8. |
Glue on a pair of wiggle eyes and draw a mouth if you like. |
9. |
Finally, glue the whale shark onto the background. |
