Shape Flowers

Steps

1. | Make a flower pot out of an ordinary paper cup. Prime the cup with white acrylic paint. | |

2. | Once the white primer is dry, paint the paper cup with poster paint. Use one solid color or create interesting designs with multiple colors. | |

3. | Draw and cut three basic shapes on construction paper such as these circle, square and oval. Each of these shapes is going to be a flower's center. Draw a cross at the center of each shape. | |

Use a craft knife to make the cross slits at each flower's center. | |

5. | Create flower petals by drawing and cutting more shapes on construction paper. | |

To make leaves, draw and cut three leaf shapes on green construction paper. Draw a cross near one end of each leaf and cut to make cross slits. | |

7. | Glue the petal shapes around each flower center. | |

8. | Make stems for the flowers by inserting a drinking straw through the cross slits at the center of each flower. | |

9. | Insert a leaf through the bottom end of each flower's stem. | |

10. | Fill the bottom of your painted flower pot with 1-inch thick play dough or clay. The idea is to provide a material to anchor your flower stems into. | |

11. | Stick the flowers inside the flower pot, pushing the stem firmly into the dough at the bottom. | |

12. | Fill the flower pot ¾ full with sand or green crepe paper strips. | |

13. | Find a nice spot to set your pretty flower pot, or cheer up your mom or grandma with your beautiful flower creations. | |
