1. |
Make a drawing board by cutting Styrofoam board to your desired size. A practical alternative is to use a small white board since you can draw and re-draw things on it. |
2. |
Draw images on the board using a marker pen. |
3. |
Prepare at least six bowls. Dispense some shaving foam on three of the bowls. |
4. |
Add some clear liquid glue to the shaving foam. |
5. |
Put a few drops of red food coloring or paint on the first bowl, blue on the second bowl and yellow on the third bowl. These are the three primary colors. |
6. |
Stir the colored shaving foam thoroughly with a spoon. |
7. |
To create secondary colors, transfer some colored shaving foam by pairs on the 3 remaining bowls: blue and red on the first, yellow and red on the second, and blue and yellow on the third bowl. Some kids would tend to combine the colors randomly so provide them with extra bowls for them to mix, discover and learn. |
8. |
Mix each color combination thoroughly. The new colors you've made are called secondary colors. Blue and red make purple, yellow and red make orange, and blue and yellow make green. |
9. |
Use the colored shaving foam to paint on the images you drew on the board. Dispense and spread the shaving foam on the images with a spoon.
For a more fun and messy experience, use your fingers. Your picture need not be perfect. Furthermore, you can always wipe off or wash off the shaving foam and start over. |
10. |
Use your fingers or the tip of a spoon to add details like dots or lines. |
11. |
When happy with your work, let your shaving foam painting dry completely. The colored shaving foam will dry to a smooth and cottony texture. |
