1. |
Obtain 2 same-sized paper cups or one food canister (e.g. Pringles). |
2. |
Fill one paper cup halfway full or your food canister 1/3 full with beans or rice. Other materials you can use include jingle bells, smalls and other small objects that can make some noise when shaken inside a container. Have fun experimenting with sound. |
3. |
Use hot glue gun to join the 2 paper cups along their lip. If you used a food canister, you can fix its lid permanently in place with a hot glue gun. |
4. |
You may further reinforce the joint between the 2 paper cups with masking tape. |
5. |
Paint the entire container with white acrylic paint. White acrylic paint serves as the primer - it covers any prints on the container and prepares it for the final color of paint. |
6. |
If you prefer, you can make a light sketch of what you want to paint on your shaker. Otherwise you can go directly to the next step. |
7. |
Paint on your shaker with colored acrylic paint or poster paint. You can go with simple stripes, spots or even do one solid color. You can always add stickers, glitter glue or paper cut-outs when the paint dries. This particular shaker is intended to be a 4th of July project. |
You can also paint on a complete picture or make abstract patterns. |
8. |
You may further decorate your shakers with stickers, small paper or craft foam shapes, or glitter glue. |
9. |
Cut and glue crepe paper strips at the top or both on the top and bottom of your shaker. |
10. |
Once the glue dries, you can start making noise with your shaker. The crepe paper strips serve as colorful streamers. |
