1. |
Draw and cut two large identical-sized circles from light blue construction paper and from dark blue/black construction paper. |
2. |
Draw a similar-sized circle on sketch paper. Use it as a guide to draw a crescent moon. |
3. |
Draw a smaller circle on sketch paper for the sun's face. |
4. |
Cut out the crescent moon and the sun. |
5. |
We are going to paint the sun and moon in a special way. Prepare four colors of poster paint on your palette- yellow, orange, blue, and white. Add a little bit of water to each color and mix thoroughly. The paint should be thick but still spreadable. |
6. |
Spoon in some yellow and orange paint onto the center of the circle. |
7. |
Spread the paint using a roller brush or dab with a sponge brush or kitchen sponge. It's okay not to mix the two colors thoroughly- a little bit of uneveness actually creates an interesting effect. Add more yellow and orange paint as needed and continue painting until the whole circle is covered. Set the circle aside to dry. |
8. |
Do the same for the crescent moon. This time use blue and white paint. |
9. |
To make the sun's rays, paint your hand with yellow poster paint and make a handprint on the light blue circle. |
10. |
Make more yellow handprints in a radiating pattern on the light blue circle. |
11. |
Glue the painted circle at the center. |
12. |
Glue the painted crescent moon on the dark blue circle. Be sure to align the moon along one side of the circle. |
13. |
Cut some stars from yellow or gold construction paper and glue them beside the moon. |
14. |
Draw a face on the sun and moon using crayons or markers. |
15. |
Glue the day and night circles back-to-back. |
16. |
Punch a hole at the top. Insert a short piece of string and tie the ends together to make a handle. |
17. |
Hang the décor where it can revolve freely. |
