Steps

Step 1 Heart Flowers craft 1. Draw and cut out a circle for the flower's center.
Step 2 Heart Flowers craft 2. To make several flower petals all at once, fold a long strip of paper accordion-style (back-and-forth folding).  Inset photo shows how the paper looks when unfolded.

*For easy folding and cutting, use light or thin paper such as tissue paper or crepe paper.
Step 3 Heart Flowers craft 3. Draw half a heart along the paper's top fold.
Step 4 Heart Flowers craft 4. While keeping the paper folded, cut along the outline.
Step 5 Heart Flowers craft 5. Unfold the pieces to reveal several hearts.
Step 6 Heart Flowers craft 6. Glue the hearts at the back of the circle to make the flower petals. You can leave spaces between the heart petals or overlap them if you like.
Step 7 Heart Flowers craft Ask for an adult's help.7. What's great about this flower craft is that you can make it into a three-dimensional flower or a two-dimensional one just by the way you attach the stem. For a three-dimensional flower, you will first need to cut cross slits at the center of the circle just wide enough for a drinking straw or pencil to get through.

*If you'd rather go for an easy two-dimensional flower, jump to Step 10.
Step 8 Heart Flowers craft 8. To pry the slits open, gently push a pencil's tip through the slits.
Step 9 Heart Flowers craft 9. Remove the pencil. To add a stem, insert one end of a drinking straw or the top end of an unsharpened pencil through the hole. That's it! You can make as many of these flowers as you please and arrange them in a vase or give them to your friends.

*If you use a pencil for the stem, the flower actually becomes a fabulous pencil topper!
Step 10 Heart Flowers craft 10. A two-dimensional flower is simpler and more manageable to make in a class or group. After doing Step 6, add a stem by gluing the flower on one end of a craft stick. Glue flower-shaped leaves along the craft stick stem if you like.
