Yarn Hair

Create hair for characters in your art projects using yarn or strings.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn or strings
  • Scissors
  • Board

Safety Guidelines

  • Young kids (3 to 8 years) should use child-safe scissors.

Steps

Step 1 Yarn Hair 1. Choose the color of yarn or strings that you want to use. Find a board to wound the yarn around. The longer you want the hair to be, the larger the board you need. Wound the yarn around the board about 15 to 20 times. The photo shows this step for both long (brown yarn) and short (orange yarn) hair.
Step 2 Yarn Hair 2. Cut the end of the yarn from the main yarn ball. Carefully remove the yarn loops from the board, making sure to retain their shape.
Step 3 Yarn Hair 3. Use a short piece of yarn to tie the yarn loops at the middle.
Step 4 Yarn Hair 4. Cut the edges of the yarn loops.
Step 5 Yarn Hair 5. Make additional hairstyling if desired, such as these long hair braids.
