The wizard's head will be made out of Styrofoam ball; the body from a paper cup or a Styrofoam cup. Try to find the appropriate size for both materials that will make the head and body well-proportioned.
*The Styrofoam ball that I used is around 2 inches in diameter while the paper cup is about 3.75 inches high. |
2. |
Paint half of the Styrofoam ball with a skin-toned color. Light skin tones can be achieved by adding a bit of brown or orange to white acrylic paint. Dark skin tones can be attained by adding a bit of black to brown or orange paint. Allow the painted ball to dry. |
3. |
Draw a pair of arms on construction paper or cardboard. Cut out both arms. |
4. |
Paint both the paper cup and the arms. Wizards' garments are usually purple or blue but you can use other hues. Paint the hands with the same color that you used in Step 2. |
5. |
Once the Styrofoam ball is dry, draw facial features using a black permanent marker. |
6. |
Glue the head onto the paper cup body using hot glue gun. You may use white glue but it will take quite a while to set. Glue on the pair of arms onto the body as well. For this you can use white glue.

7. |
Glue on some cotton to make the wizard's hair. |
8. |
An elderly wizard won't be complete without a beard. Glue cotton to make a mustache and a long white beard. You can line the eyebrows with cotton as well. |
9. |
To make the hat, cut out a half circle that is approximately 5 inches in diameter out of construction paper. Ideally the construction paper should be roughly the same color or shade as the wizard's clothes. Form the half-circle into a cone. Glue or staple the edges in place. |
10. |
You can paint the hat if you want it to be exactly the same color as the wizard's clothes. Wait for the paint to dry before gluing on some star-shaped sequins or stickers on the hat. If you neither have stickers nor sequins, you can create small paper stars using a star craft punch or you can draw star shapes on the hat with glitter glue.
11. |
Glue on some stars on the wizard's clothes as well. |
12. |
Finally put the hat on the wizard's head. If you want to make a wand, you can make it out of a tiny piece of twig or a thin strip of construction paper. Glue the wand on the wizard's hand.
That's it! Now your wizard is all set to say "Abracadabra!" |
