1. |
Prepare uncolored salt dough. Make sure that your dough is not soft, otherwise your snowman will "melt" or sag. |
2. |
Make two salt dough balls, one smaller than the other, for the snowman's head and body. |
3. |
Cut a piece of drinking straw an inch longer than the snowman's body. Insert the straw from the top portion of the snowman's body and push it all the way down until only an inch or so sticks out. |
4. |
Stick the snowman's head through the protruding portion of the straw. |

5. |
You can use a wide variety of materials for the details on your snowman. Here are some suggestions:
- EYES- wiggle eyes or beads
- MOUTH- small beads or pipe cleaner
- BUTTONS- beads, gem-style stickers, sequins
- NOSE- a short piece of drinking straw, a short piece of pipe cleaner, or roll a tiny piece of paper into a cone
- HAT- salt dough (mold it into a hat shape), plastic bottle caps, or make a paper hat
6. |
Add a scarf with a scrap of fabric or a satin ribbon. These salt dough sculptures will take several days to set (or harden) completely. |
