Tiny Paper Hat

Make a fabulous paper hat for your salt dough snowman sculpture.

Materials Needed

  • Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Compass (optional)

Safety Guidelines

  • Young kids (3 to 8 years) should use child-safe scissors.

Steps

Step 1 Tiny Paper Hat 1. Cut construction paper into a rectangular piece. It should be long enough to go around your snowman's head and its height should approximately be about 2-3 inches. Apply glue along one of the shorter sides.
Step 2 Tiny Paper Hat 2. Glue the 2 short ends of the paper together so that you come up with a rolled piece.
Step 3 Tiny Paper Hat 3. Trace the round base of this rolled piece on construction paper.
Step 4 Tiny Paper Hat 4. Draw a slightly bigger circle outside the first one.
Step 5 Tiny Paper Hat 5. Cut out the bigger circle, as well as the inner circle to come up with the hat's brim.
Step 6 Tiny Paper Hat 6. Going back to the rolled piece, cut fringes both on its top and bottom edges. The fringes on top should be longer than those at the bottom.
Step 7 Tiny Paper Hat 7. Apply glue along the inner side of the top (and longer) fringes.
Step 8 Tiny Paper Hat 8. Fold the fringes inward. The overlapping fringes will form the top end of the hat.
Step 9 Tiny Paper Hat 9. Bend the bottom (and shorter) fringes outward.
Step 10 Tiny Paper Hat 10. Apply glue on the hat's brim. Insert the brim from the top of the hat and slide it all the way down until it reaches the bottom fringes.
Step 11 Tiny Paper Hat 11. Press on the brim to glue it effectively with the bottom fringes.
