Clown Hat

Create a cone-shaped clown hat which comes with a mop of colorful curly hair.	Safety Tips Young kids (3 to 8 years) should use child-safe scissors. Keep the stapler out of children's reach. Watch out for this sign . It means adult help is needed for the particular step.
Materials Construction paper Colored paper Gift ribbons White glue or liquid glue Pompom Scotch tape Scissors Compass (optional)

Steps

	1.	Make a Basic Cone Hat with a radius of about 8 to 9 inches. *If you prefer to use a pattern, print out this birthday hat template on A4 or Letter size cardstock. The resulting hat will probably be a bit small so you will need to attach a chin strap using an elastic string.
	2.	Decorate your hat with bright-colored circles either by painting them on (you may finger paint if you like!) or gluing on circle cut-outs.
	3.	Cut gift ribbons into 10 to 12-inch long pieces. You may ask an adult to curl the ribbons for you using a pair of scissors following these instructions.
	4.	Tape the ribbons along the inner edge of the hat to make colorful hair. Fifteen to twenty curly ribbons would be sufficient to cover half of the hat's base.
	5.	Glue a large pompom at the tip of the hat.
	6.	Enjoy wearing your funny hat! For a complete clown look, use face paint to color your nose red.
