Fairy Wand

Decorate and turn our fun-shaped wand templates into easy paper fairy wands.	Safety Tips Young kids (3 to 8 years) should use child-safe scissors. Small craft materials such as rhinestones or sequins are choking hazards. Not appropriate for use by children below the age of three.
Materials A4 or Letter size printable card stock Crayons, colored pencils or any water-based paint Wooden dowel Glitter glue White glue or tacky glue Scissors Paint brush Masking tape Curly ribbons, curled fabric ribbons or crepe paper Rhinestones, sequins, plastic gems, other decorative materials (optional)

Steps

	1.	Choose your wand's main shape from any of these printable patterns and print the page out on Letter or A4 card stock: Butterfly - shapes or ready-to-color Flower Heart Star Strawberry
	2.	Color or paint the shapes with your favorite coloring material. *To create a shimmering effect, use metallic paint. Mix your own metallic colors by adding a tinge of any color of paint to silver paint. I achieved a metallic blue color by adding a teeny bit of blue to silver paint.
	3.	Obtain a dowel for your wand's handle and paint it with acrylic or poster paint. Set it aside to dry.
	4.	Check on your shapes. Once they're dry, you can add more sparkle to them with glitter glue. Squeeze a glob of glitter glue onto the center of the shape and spread it evenly across the entire shape using a paint brush.
		Or you can apply the glitter glue in lines, dots or patterns.
	5.	Cut out the shapes once the glitter glue has dried.
	6.	Some of the templates (e.g. star, heart, flower) include a pair of smaller shapes in addition to the main shapes. Glue each smaller shape at the center of a main shape.
	7.	Tape a few strips of curly ribbons, curled fabric ribbons or crepe paper at the back of each shape. The third option is the easiest and a great option for younger kids.
	8.	Glue one end of the dowel at the back of one of the shapes (use white glue or tacky glue). If you want to proceed to the next step without waiting for the glue to dry, you can secure the dowel in place with masking tape.
	9.	Apply white glue or tacky glue along the edges of the back of one of the shapes. Glue the other shape on top, aligning them neatly along the edges. Press along the edges to glue them together.
	10.	If necessary, apply more glue inside the joint between the paper shapes and the dowel. Press gently on the area to bond them together.
	11.	You may further decorate your wand by gluing on rhinestones, sequins or plastic gems. Enjoy your lovely fairy wand! It would be a great idea to make this craft before reading a favorite fairytale or you can use it to acccent a fairy costume.
