Spooky Spider Hat

Create an awesomely spooky spider hat out of construction paper and some wiggly eyes.

Materials

  • Black construction paper (two sheets of 12" x 18")
  • A4 or Letter size copy paper
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Scissors
  • White glue
  • Pencil

Steps

Step 1 Spooky Spider Hat craft 1. Print out this spider hat template on A4 or Letter size paper.
Step 2 Spooky Spider Hat craft 2. Cut out the two template pieces.
Step 3 Spooky Spider Hat craft 3. To create the spider's body, take the main template and trace around it onto black construction paper.
Step 4 Spooky Spider Hat craft 4. Create the pair of bands that will go around your head by tracing around the straight template twice on black construction paper.
Step 5 Spooky Spider Hat craft 5. Cut out the construction paper spider hat parts.
Step 6 Spooky Spider Hat craft 6. Glue one band behind the spider's left corner and the other band behind the right corner.
Step 7 Spooky Spider Hat craft 7. Glue two or more wiggle eyes. The more eyes you add, the spookier your spider hat will be!

*If you want to draw or paint some small spots or patterns on your spider, do this before gluing the eyes.
Step 8 Spooky Spider Hat craft Ask for an adult's help.8. Measure the hat around your head. Trim the ends to achieve the right length before gluing or stapling the ends of the bands together.
Step 9 Spooky Spider Hat craft 9. Divide a 12" x 18" sheet of black construction paper into eighths, folded and cut lengthwise, to come up with eight spider legs. The strips are roughly around 1½ inches wide and 18 inches long. You can trim down the strips to as short as 12 inches, depending on how short or long you want the legs to be.
Step 10 Spooky Spider Hat craft 10. Glue or tape one strip on the inside of the band, close to the spider body's bottom corner.
Step 11 Spooky Spider Hat craft 11. Glue or tape three more strips, each new strip slightly overlapping the previous one.
Step 12 Spooky Spider Hat craft 12. Similarly glue or tape the four remaining strips on the opposite side of the hat to complete the spider's eight legs. Once the glue dries, try on the hat. You can further trim the legs to your preferred length.
Step 13 Spooky Spider Hat craft 13. Round out the corners at the end of each leg.
Step 14 Spooky Spider Hat craft 14. Wear your spook-tacular spider hat for Halloween or anytime you want to give your friends a good scare.
