  • Yoghurt cups
  • Craft sticks
  • Beans or rice
  • White acrylic paint
  • Tempera or poster paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Craft knife
  • Hot glue gun

Step 1 Festive Maracas 1. Wash two yoghurt cups and let them dry thoroughly.
Step 2 Festive Maracas 2. Prime the cups, including the lids, with white acrylic paint. Let the paint dry completely.
Step 3 Festive Maracas 3. Paint the cups with various colors of water-based paint such as tempera, acrylic, or poster paint. Come up with your own unique designs.
Step 4 Festive Maracas 4. Paint two craft sticks and set them aside to dry.
Step 5 Festive Maracas Ask for an adult's help.5. Cut a slit at the center of each lid just wide enough for a craft stick to get through.
Step 6 Festive Maracas 6. Fill each yoghurt cup around one-third full with beans or rice.
Step 7 Festive Maracas Ask for an adult's help.7. Insert a craft stick through the slit on each lid. Fix the stick in place with a glue gun.
Step 8 Festive Maracas Ask for an adult's help.8. Fix the lid to the cup as well using the glue gun.
Step 9 Festive Maracas 9. Once the glue dries, you can start shaking your pair of festive maracas.

Once it's time to dismantle or dispose of your craft project, sort out the materials that you can recycle
or reuse. You can use the seeds for fun activities such as the following:

  • Make a seed mosaic or cute animal bean bags.
  • Use the seeds to make a bird feeder.
  • Plant the seeds. You can even use the yoghurt cups from your maracas as small pots.
