Paper Strip Pumpkin

Assemble a couple of orange paper strips together to create a wonderful paper pumpkin.

Materials

  • Orange card stock (A4 or Letter size) or orange construction paper (9 x 12 inches)
  • Green construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Hole punch
  • Green pipe cleaner

Steps

Step 1 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 1. Start out with two sheets of A4 or Letter size orange card stock, or 1 sheet of 9- x 12-inch orange construction paper.
Step 2 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 2. Fold and cut 1 sheet of A4 or Letter size card stock into 8 equal sections to come up with 8 roughly 1-inch wide strips. Use half of the 2nd sheet of card stock to create an additional 4 paper strips, bringing up the total to 12 paper strips to use for your paper pumpkin.

*For a 9- x 12- inch sheet of construction paper, fold and cut the paper into twelve 1-inch wide strips.
Step 3 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 3. Take 4 paper strips. Grab a pair and glue them together on one end to create a super long strip. Similarly glue the 2 remaining strips together to create a 2nd long strip.
Step 4 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 4. Position the 2 long strips perpendicular to each other and glue them together at the center.
Step 5 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 5. Glue 2 paper strips at the 1 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions.
Step 6 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 6. Glue the next two paper strips at the 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock positions.
Step 7 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 7. Glue the remaining 4 strips at the 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock, 10 o'clock and 11 o'clock positions.
Step 8 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft Ask for an adult's help.8. Punch a hole close to the tip of each paper strip.
Step 9 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 9. To make the stem, cut green construction paper or card stock into a small rectangle (mine is around 2 x 2.5 inches). Roll this into a cigar shape, with one end a bit smaller than the opposite end. This smaller end shoud be able to fit into the holes you made in Step 8. Glue the edges of the paper in place.
Step 10 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 10. Fold one of the paper strips towards the center without creasing it. Insert the smaller end of the stem into the hole and push the stem in until it fits snugly into the hole. You can glue the stem in place if you like.
Step 11 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 11. Fold up an adjacent paper strip and apply glue close to the tip of the strip.
Step 12 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 12. Bring this paper strip under the first one with the stem. Insert the stem into the hole and press the two strips together to glue them in place.
Step 13 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 13. Work on the next adjacent paper strip following Steps 11 and 12. Go from one adjacent paper strip to the next until you've gathered all the paper strips by the stem.
Step 14 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 14. With all the paper strips in place, your work now looks a lot like a pumpkin!
Step 15 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 15. To create tendrils, bend a green pipe cleaner on several points along its length to come up with a wavy or curly piece. Cut the piece in half to create two wavy tendrils.
Step 16 Paper Strip Pumpkin craft 16. Carefully insert one end of each tendril into the hole around the stem.

You can hang this lovely paper pumpkin or place it on a table as an autumn or Halloween decoration.
