  • Keep the glue gun out of children's reach.
  • Watch out for this sign Ask for an adult's help.. It means adult help is needed for the particular step.

Step 1 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 1. Cover the center hole of an old CD with a small piece of aluminum foil. Tape the edges of the foil onto the CD.
Step 2 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 2. Flip the CD over so that the reflective side is facing up. The reflective surface of most CDs is usually silver-colored, but some have a nice tinge of purple, green or blue.

Use puffy paint or 3D paint to draw lines and shapes on the CD. Metallic-colored puffy paint goes well with the CD's reflective surface.

You may also try making your own puffy paint by mixing 1 part acrylic paint with 2 parts white glue. Find the instructions here.
Step 3 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 3. When the puffy paint has dried, squeeze on some glitter glue between the puffy paint lines and use a small spatula or stick to spread it evenly.
Step 4 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 4. You may also accent large undecorated areas by drawing little dots of puffy paint or glitter glue.
Step 5 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 5. If you want to make a two-sided CD Christmas ornament, you will need to decorate a pair of CDs.

Allow the CDs to dry completely.
Step 6 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 6. In case you decorated on large sections with glitter glue like I did with this particular CD, you might notice that the glitter glue tends to come off at the edges when it dries. Glue the edges back on with white glue.
Step 7 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 7. Cut a length of thin string for the handle. Gather the ends of the string together and tape it at the back of a decorated CD.
Step 8 CD Christmas Tree Ornament Ask for an adult's help.8. To ensure a stronger bond, you may fix the string onto the CD with a glue gun. Keep the glue gun adhesive as flat as possible by spreading it or flattening it with a stick before it sets.
Step 9 CD Christmas Tree Ornament Ask for an adult's help.9. If you are making a two-sided Christmas ornament, glue the second decorated CD on top of the first one. Align the two CDs at the edges as you glue them together with a glue gun or with white glue.
Step 10 CD Christmas Tree Ornament 10. You may attach a large bow (use a glue gun) at the top portion of the CD.

Once the glue dries, decorate your Christmas tree with these lovely recycled CDs. You may also suspend them from window frames or from the ceiling.
