Asian Folding Fan
Create a lovely Asian folding paper fan with a pair of craft stick handles.

Supplies Needed
- A4 or letter size paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Large craft sticks
- Colored pencils, markers or crayons
- Glue gun, string, and beads (optional)
STEPS
1Prepare the paper.
To make the fan, you will need 2 sheets of A4 or Letter size paper.
2Decorate the paper.
You can leave the sheets blank or decorate them by drawing, painting or stamping on them. I decorated mine using vegetable prints.
3Let the paint dry.
Your 2 sheets of paper should more or less have the same design or color theme. Let the paint dry completely.
4Fold on one short side.
Make about a ¾-inch fold from the paper's short side. This first fold defines the width of all the next folds.
5Make more folds.
Flip the paper and make the next fold the same width as the first one. Repeat this back-and-forth folding until you've folded the entire sheet.
6Trim after the last fold.
Trim any excess paper after the last fold.
7Fold the other sheet.
Repeat steps 4 to 6 for the second sheet of paper.
8Glue the 2 sheets together.
Glue the two folded sheets of paper along one side.
9Fold in the middle.
Arrange the folds into a pile. Fold the pile in the middle.
10Tie a string.
Tie a string around the middle fold.
11Glue the inner sides.
Glue the two inner sides of the paper together to come up with the classic origami fan shape.
12Create a handle.
Paint a pair of large craft sticks. Once the paint dries, glue the craft sticks onto the outer sides of the fan. Let the glue dry completely.
13Open up the fan.
Bring the two craft sticks all the way around to open up the fan. Move them the opposite way to close the fan.
14Attach a string.
As an option, you can attach a string at the base of the handles to keep the fan open or closed. Cut a 10-inch length of string. Fold it in the middle and attach this middle point to the base of one craft stick using a glue gun. String some beads at the ends of the string if you like.
15Fasten the handles together.
Tie the ends of the string around the opposite handle to keep the fan open.
The string can likewise keep the fan folded shut.
