Handprint Witch
Create this easy handprint witch to use for storytelling, puppet shows and other fun Halloween activities. It's also a cute addition to your Halloween poster or wall decorations.

Supplies Needed
- Construction paper (A4, Letter size, or 9"x12")
- Tempera or poster paint
- Paint brush
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue or transparent tape (optional)
STEPS
1 Prepare the paper.
Prepare a sheet of A4, Letter size, or 9"x12" construction paper. The color of the paper will basically define the color of your witch's face.
2 Paint your hand.
Paint your entire palm and fingers with black tempera or poster paint.
3 Press your hand onto the paper.
With fingers spread apart, firmly press your painted hand onto the paper.
4 Remove your hand.
Carefully remove your hand to reveal a black handprint on the paper.
5 Rotate the paper.
Rotate the paper so that your handprint's fingers are pointing down. To visualize a witch, imagine the thumb as the witch's arm and the palm as her body. The middle and ring finger are her legs while the index finger and little finger mark the sides of her dress.
6 Create the other arm.
Notice that your handprint witch has only one arm. To make another arm, paint your index finger with black paint. Press your painted finger on the side of the handprint opposite the thumb.
7 Let the paint dry.
Let the paint dry completely.
8 Draw a line.
Using a black crayon, draw a line from the tip of the index finger to the tip of the little finger to define the bottom hem of the witch's dress.
9 Color the dress.
Color the area above the line with black crayon.
10 Draw the witch's head.
Draw a circle or oval to create the witch's head. Draw a face as well.
11 Draw a hat.
Draw a pointy hat on your witch's head. Color the hat black.
12 Draw the hair.
Draw the witch's hair using any color you like. Orange or purple are fun Halloween colors!
13 Cut out the witch.
Cut out your awesome paper witch. If you want to create a broomstick, continue with the easy steps below.
14 Create a fingerprint broom.
Prepare a sheet of brown construction paper or cardstock. Paint your index finger yellow then press onto the paper. Make several fingerprints in a fan-like arrangement.
15 Draw a handle.
Draw the broom's stick or handle. An easy way to do this is to use a large craft stick. Position it at the tip of the fingerprint broom. Trace the outline of the craft stick with a pencil.
16 Cut out the broomstick.
Cut out the paper broomstick.
17 Glue the witch to the broom.
Glue or tape the witch onto the broomstick. Use this friendly witch for storytelling, puppet shows and other fun Halloween activities. It's also a cute addition to your Halloween poster or wall decorations.
