1Collect some caps and lids.

Collect some plastic or metal bottle caps and jar lids. Wash them well and let them dry.

2Prepare some craft foam.

Prepare some craft foam sheets, or better yet, scraps of craft foam from your previous craft projects.

3Trace around the edges of the cap.

Take one bottle cap or jar lid and place it on a sheet of craft foam.

Using a pencil, trace around the edges of the cap to draw a round outline on the craft foam.

4Draw a stamp design.

With the size of the stamp clearly marked on your craft foam, draw a stamp design inside the circle.

Your design can be a simple shape, a smiley face, a number, an alphabet letter, or any shape or image you can think of.

5Cut out the design.

Cut out the shape or design on your craft foam.

6Flip the shape.

Before gluing the craft foam shape onto the bottle cap, you have to flip it so that it is facing the other way.

However, if the shape is bilaterally symmetric (right and left sides are mirror images), like a heart, a smiley face, or the number 8, then you don't have to flip the shape at all.

7Glue the shape onto the cap.

Glue the craft foam shape onto the top of the bottle cap or jar lid. You can use white glue but a glue gun secures the foam shape better.

8Press on the cap.

Turn the bottle cap upside down. Press on the inside of the cap to glue the craft foam shape well.

9Let the glue dry.

Turn the cap again so that the stamp design is now facing up. Let the glue dry completely.

10Make more stamps.

Follow the steps above to make more stamps. Check out some of the stamps we've made:

a.)  Heart - bilaterally symmetric shapes like this heart stamp can be glued onto the bottle cap without flipping the shape.

b.)  Flower - combine smaller shapes to make a more detailed stamp, like this flower stamp.

Take extra care when gluing small shapes using a glue gun, you can get burned! Apply the hot glue onto the bottle cap instead on the craft foam. Use a craft stick or any other object instead of your finger to press on the craft foam shapes.

c.)  Smiley face - instead of solid shapes, you can cut the foam into lines or outlines to create an image.

11Use the stamps.

Once the glue has set completely, you can use your awesome stamps. Dip the stamp onto a plate of paint or press it onto an ink pad. Shake off any excess paint and stamp onto paper.
