Folding Paper Flowers (5 Petals)

- Paper (preferably thin or lightweight paper)

STEPS
1 Make a paper square.
Start out with a square piece of paper, preferably thin or lightweight paper. You can use square origami paper or follow these easy steps for making a square from any rectangular piece of paper.
2 Fold the square in half.
Fold the square up in half.
3 Mark the ⅓ point.
Mark the one-third point from the top of the left edge. You can either estimate this point or measure it with a ruler.
4 Fold up the bottom right corner.
Fold the bottom right corner up towards the one-third point.
5 Fold up the bottom left corner.
Fold up the bottom left corner over the right edge.
6 Fold down the top right corner.
Fold down the top right corner over the left edge.
7 Cut along the horizontal edge.
Cut along the horizontal edge so that you come up with a wedge.
8 Draw an arc and cut.
Draw an arc starting from the top left corner of the wedge to about ½-inch from the bottom of the opposite side. This arc defines the shape of the flower petals. Cut along the line.
9 Unfold the paper.
Unfold the paper to reveal a 5-petal flower. Cut out a circle from paper, craft, foam, felt, or fabric. Glue this at the center of the flower.
10 Make more paper flowers.

More Ideas
Create variety.
Create a variety of flowers by using different colors and patterns of paper. Try varying the size and shape of the arc you draw in Step 8 to come up with unique flowers.
Other materials you can glue at the center of each flower include large buttons, small pompoms, plastic gems and yarn.
Use edging scissors.
Use a pair of wavy or scallop-edged craft scissors to cut the arc in Step 8 to come up with fancy-edged flowers.
Layer two or more flowers.
Glue together two or more flowers to come up with sunflowers, daisies, and other many-petaled flowers.
