1 Print out the pattern.

Choose your wand topper's shape from any of these printables: flower, star, butterfly, heart, or strawberry. Print out the template on Letter or A4 size paper.

2 Cut out the shapes.

The printable pages have more shapes than needed. We need just two shapes for our wand pattern—a main shape and a second smaller shape.

3 Draw shapes on felt.

Use the paper patterns to draw shape outlines on felt. Place the main paper shape on a sheet of felt. Use a pencil to trace around the edges of the paper shape. Repeat to come up with a pair of identical shape outlines on the felt.

Take the smaller paper shape. Place it on a different color of felt sheet. Similarly trace around the edges to create a pair of shape outlines on the felt.

4 Cut out the felt shapes.

Cut out all four felt shapes.

5 Join the felt shapes by pairs.

Stitch or glue (use tacky glue or a glue gun) each smaller shape onto a main shape.

6 Add some accents.

You can further glue or stitch on some beads, buttons, sequins, small pompoms, more felt shapes or other little charming details.

7 Join the two main felt shapes.

Assemble your wand's topper by joining the two main felt shapes together. Position them back-to-back, aligning them at the edges.

Stitch or glue the two together at the edges, leaving a 1.5 to 2-inch gap for putting the stuffing as well as the handle.

8 Prepare the handle.

Use a wooden dowel to make a handle for your wand. You can paint it with a color that matches your wand topper. Another option is to wrap the entire length with a fabric ribbon. Fix the ends of the ribbon in place using a glue gun or tacky glue.

9 Glue the handle.

Fix one end of the wooden dowel inside the felt topper with a glue gun or with tacky glue. Press the dowel against the felt to glue it in place.

10 Put some stuffing.

Once the glue has set, stuff the felt topper with cotton, polyester fiber fill, or small scraps of felt. You can even add a small jingle bell or two for a fun rattling sound.

11 Seal the gap.

Finish up by stitching or gluing the opening on your felt topper.

12 Enjoy your wand!

You can still add some accents if you like. Just stitch or glue them on until you're quite happy with how your wand looks.

Wear the wand as part of a fairy or princess costume. The wand can be also used as a cute pointer for various toddler and preschool learning activities.
