Pom-pom Spider
Create a cute fluffy spider using a large pompom, pipe cleaners, and a pair of wiggly eyes.

- Large black pom-pom
- Two black pipe cleaners
- Scissors
- White glue
- Wiggle eyes
- Felt or paper scraps
STEPS
1Prepare the materials.
Start out with a large black pom-pom and two black pipe cleaners.
2Cut the pipe cleaners in half.
Cut the pair of pipe cleaners in half so that you come up with four shorter pieces. For safety, trim any sharp points at the ends of the pipe cleaners.
3Tie the pipe cleaners together.
To make the spider's eight legs, gather the four pipe cleaners, aligning them at the ends.
Tie them together in the middle with a short piece of pipe cleaner or string. Move the legs outwards so that they fan out.
4Bend the legs.
Bend down each leg at roughly the same point.
5Place the legs on a flat surface.
Place the spider legs on a table or flat surface to see if the whole thing can stand upright. If a leg is too short or too long, straighten the leg and bend it at a point that makes it the same height as the other legs.
6Create a face.
Glue two or more wiggle eyes on the pom-pom. Spiders can have as many as eight eyes!
Cut out a mouth from felt, craft foam, or paper. Glue it below the eyes.
7Glue the pom-pom.
Glue the pom-pom onto the center of the pipe cleaner legs. Let the glue dry before moving your spider.

Create an itsy bitsy spider by gluing two pom-poms—a small one for the body and a tiny one for the head. Use black yarn instead of pipe cleaners to make the legs.

Attach a string.
Attach a string to hang the spider from the ceiling or from a window sill. You can also add the string for a fun pull-along spider. To attach a string, simply tie a long piece of yarn or string around the middle of the pipe cleaners in Step 3.
