Pipe Cleaner Snowflake
Create these pretty eight-sided snowflake ornaments out of pipe cleaners. Use these lovely snowflakes to decorate your holiday tree or hang them around the house as winter decorations.

- 6 pipe cleaners

STEPS
1Prepare 6 pipe cleaners.
Start out with six pipe cleaners of the same color. Trim off any sharp metal tips, if there are any.
2Cut 2 pipe cleaners in half.
Cut a pair of pipe cleaners in half to get four 6" long pieces. These four pieces will make up the arms of your eight-sided snowflake.
3Cut 2 pipe cleaners into sixths.
Cut the next pair of pipe cleaners into sixths to come up with twelve 2" long pieces.
4Cut 2 pipe cleaners into eighths.
Cut the last pair of pipe cleaners into eighths to get sixteen 1½" long pieces.
5Tie the 6" long pieces together.
Gather the four 6" pieces together, aligning them on both ends. Tie them together around the middle with one of the 2" pieces.
6Spread the 8 arms.
Spread the snowflake's eight arms so that they are evenly spaced.
7Prepare the sixteen 1½" pieces.
To add the details on the snowflake, prepare all sixteen 1½" pieces.
8Position the first 1½" piece.
Take the first 1½" piece. Position it in between two snowflake arms, about an inch from the center of the snowflake.
Fasten one end onto one snowflake arm and the other end onto the adjacent arm.
9Position the second 1½" piece.
Take the second 1½" piece. Position it next to the first one. Fasten its ends onto the adjacent snowflake arms.
10Position 6 more 1½" pieces.
Continue fastening six more of the 1½" pieces as shown in Steps 8 and 9. The eight 1½" pieces will form a ring close to the center of the snowflake.
11Place a 1½" piece near the tip.
Let's use the remaining eight 1½" pieces to make the details close to the tips of the arms.
Position the middle of one 1½" piece behind a snowflake arm, about an inch from the tip.
12Fix the 1½" piece in place.
Fix the 1½" piece in place by first folding the right side up towards the left, then folding the left side up towards the right. The 1½" pipe cleaner piece should now look like a letter "V". Pull the ends outwards to tighten around the snowflake arm.
13Position 7 more 1½" pieces.
Position the remaining seven 1½" pieces close to the tips of the snowflake following Steps 11 and 12.
14Position eight 2" pieces.
Take eight 2" pieces. Position each piece around the middle of a snowflake arm following Steps 11 to 13.
15Tie a string.
Tie a string at to the top of the snowflake. Use the snowflake as a Christmas tree ornament or string several snowflakes together to make a garland. You can also stick them onto windows or glass panels using double-sided tape.
Try making colorful snowflakes using bright-colored pipe cleaners or create sparkly ones with metallic pipe cleaners. You can also go for classic white snowflakes or use cool colors like white, blue, and purple.
